Roomy French-country mansion - $1.375M

CASCADE TOWNSHIP, MI -- The French Country-style mansion at 1300 Royal County Down SE will offer its next owner lots of space on a 3.6-acre wooded lot in a secluded gated community.

Built in 1995 by Scott Christopher Homes, the six-bedroom house, with six full bathrooms and two half-baths, needs some updating, but some of the work has been done to the tune of $150,000-plus for a new deck, playground set and sports court, Realtor John Postma, of Re/Max of Grand Rapids, said.

Postma has listed the property for $1.375 million, arguing it would cost $2.6 million to replace the 9,500-square-foot home, which currently is empty after the owners moved out of state.

From the glass-paneled hickory front door to the custom maple trim, the quality of the big house shines through despite some of the dated décor.

The slate tiled foyer includes a music room whose stained glass window invites the return of a grand piano.

The foyer steps down to a sunken living room that features a massive fieldstone fireplace that stretches 20 feet to the vaulted ceiling. The living room includes a platform for an entertainment center that left with the former occupants.

In the kitchen and butler's pantry, the custom Grabil maple cabinets are trimmed in cherry. The island is topped with stainless steel.

An informal dining area has a terra cotta tile floor with four French doors that open up to a three-season porch overlooking the hot tub, swimming pool and patio in the backyard.

The formal dining room with 11-foot ceilings is dominated by a large golden-hued wallpaper mural mounted on three walls above the wainscoting.

Beyond the kitchen, there's an ornate half-bathroom, a large mudroom with lockers, a home office and laundry room next to the three-stall garage, which is heated and features epoxy flooring.

At the other end of the main level, there's a large master suite with a large window in the bedroom overlooking the deck and wooded ravine behind the house. The suite includes two large dressing rooms and closets and a marble-floored bathroom that includes a claw-foot tub and twin vanities.

The master suite also includes a spiral staircase that leads to a large office or drawing room on the lower level, where all of the flooring is kept warm through radiant heating system.

Elsewhere on the lower level, there's a large theater room with a kitchenette that was installed in 2012. There's also a wine cellar and a guest bedroom or sitting area.

The lower level also includes a mirrored exercise room with enough room for a full complement of workout equipment.

The second floor includes four bedrooms, each with its own full bathroom and walk-in closet. There's also a room with four homework stations on the second floor.

The area above the garage includes a large game room and a "bonus" room that could be converted into a studio or craft room.
